Bluesky, an open-source social network that serves as an alternative to X, has gained attention with the arrival of former U.S. President Barack Obama as one of its users. The news was officially confirmed by the company on Sunday.
Rose Wang from Bluesky OOO responded to user inquiries regarding the authenticity of Obama’s account by stating, “Confirmed!”
In his first post on Bluesky, Obama commemorated the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), describing it as proof that change is possible when people continue to fight for progress.
Obama still maintains a large following on other social media platforms, with 130.6 million followers on X and 55 million followers on Facebook.
“Figured I’d hop on here today for the 15th anniversary of the ACA. With everything going on right now, it’s easy to feel like regular folks can’t make a difference—but the ACA is a reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress.”

Meanwhile, X, formerly known as Twitter, has seen a decline in user numbers following the 2024 U.S. elections. Elon Musk was known to use the platform to support President Donald Trump’s campaign and promote pro-MAGA political views. Additionally, Musk now holds an influential position within Trump’s circle due to his involvement with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), an organization focused on reducing the federal workforce, cutting spending, and dismantling government agencies.
As a result, many left-leaning U.S. users opted to leave X, leading to a significant increase in Bluesky’s user base in late 2024. Currently, the platform boasts over 33 million users and continues to grow.
Several prominent U.S. politicians have also joined Bluesky, including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Al Green, Gavin Newsom, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who became the first user on Bluesky to reach one million followers. Many other representatives, senators, and governors have also joined the platform.
