Nintendo Announces ‘Legend of Zelda’ Movie Release Date Through New App

The Legend of zelda

Nintendo has officially announced that the live-action “The Legend of Zelda” movie will premiere on March 26, 2027.

Interestingly, this announcement came a day after the Nintendo Direct event, rather than during the usual live stream. This was intentional, as Nintendo wants to encourage fans to download their latest news app, Nintendo Today!, as the primary source for Nintendo-related updates.

During the Nintendo Direct event, Shigeru Miyamoto introduced the Nintendo Today! app, and those who downloaded it immediately were rewarded with exclusive access to the “Zelda” movie release date announcement. This app is designed to provide daily updates on Nintendo games, featuring a customization option that allows users to prioritize news from their favorite franchises.

Amid the flood of movies and TV shows based on well-known IPs, the “Zelda” movie announcement might not be too surprising. However, Nintendo has proven that investing in their iconic franchises is highly profitable. The “Super Mario Bros.” movie, for example, was a massive success, earning $1.3 billion worldwide with just a $100 million production budget, making it one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

While “Zelda” may not have the same universal recognition as “Mario”, the game “Breath of the Wild” has sold over 34 million copies, surpassing the sales of several classic Pokémon games.

With Nintendo preparing to reveal more details about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 soon, the Nintendo Today! app might just be the go-to source for fans eager for early news.
